Classic Song: Paint It Black

Written by the Jagger/Richards partnership, Paint It Black was one of the Rolling Stones' first songs to shake the world of music. Released on May 13, 1966 it reached #1 in both the U.S. and the U.K. and it is considered  the first number one single to feature a sitar. It ranked 176 out of 500 songs on the Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

There's something about Paint It Black that make's it sound so dirty, yet so rewarding. That sitar riff it's simply amazing, who could imagine that a sitar could be part of a number one rock song? Obviously there's more to the song than just the sitar riff, that galloping beat from the drums at the start of the song it just fits so perfect. Mick Jagger's singing is top notch, while the lyrics depict the funeral for a young girl, a girl close to him, and it describes how he is feeling trapped into some kind of darkness: depression.
